Gazoo was born in academia, at Texas A&M University and founded on a fundamental idea that the number of students requiring access to lab computers far exceeded a school’s capacity to provide space with 24-hour access.  While VDI has been used in academia previously, we found that the initial capital costs and potential sizing risk outweighed the benefits for all but the most well-funded universities.  Our ‘big idea’ was to deliver Open Access Labs on an as-needed basis using Amazon’s AWS platform.  This approach eliminates the need for any upfront capital costs and allows academic institutions to only pay for what they use.
