Walmart is testing a new detergent that uses high-quality recycled plastics instead of petroleum-based ones.
The company has also been looking at alternatives to petroleum-derived detergents that are made from chemicals like formaldehyde, which have been linked to respiratory problems and cancer.
Walmart is making the change because it believes its detergences are more eco-friendly than its competitors, according to a company statement.
“These new recycled plastics are also biodegradable, and they’re more eco friendly than petroleum- or synthetic-based detergencies,” the statement read.
Walmart said its new detergent will be available in the U.S. by the end of February.
